ABOUT

Richard Clemmitt is a composer with works published by Augsburg Fortress, GIA, H.T. FitzSimons, Hope Publishing, and The Church Hymnal Corporation.

 

In addition to composing, Richard has been the Organist and Choirmaster of Christ Church in Winnetka, Illinois for over thirty years.

 

Choirs from Christ Church tour regularly under his direction, both in the United States and the United Kingdom. Touring in the UK has included week-long choral residencies at the cathedrals of Canterbury, Durham, Ely, Lichfield, Lincoln, Salisbury, Wells, Winchester, and York. Touring in the US has included sung services at Washington National Cathedral, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine (New York), Trinity Church (Boston), The Cathedral of St. Philip (Atlanta), St. John’s Cathedral (Denver), Grace Cathedral (San Francisco), Christ Church Cathedral (Nashville), and St. Mark’s Cathedral (Seattle).

 

Prior to arriving at Christ Church, Richard served on the conducting staff of Singing City in Philadelphia. He assisted the group in preparing for a broad range of occasions: from professional concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra to community concerts in inner-city schools, hospitals, and retirement facilities.

 

As a singer, Richard was a founding member of The Schola Cantorum of Boston. He also has sung with The Boston Camerata, The Cathedral Singers (Chicago), The Princeton Singers, and The Washington National Cathedral Choir.

 

He has served as Sub-Dean of the North Shore (Chicago) Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians.

Richard earned his BMus in organ performance from New England Conservatory as a pupil of Yuko Hayashi and his MMus in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College as a pupil of Joseph Flummerfelt.

 

He is married to music teacher and spiritual director Elizabeth Clemmitt. They have two grown sons, Ethan and Adam.
